Helping Hands’ Ugandan Team

Joy Kabanda has been with us from the start. She is our full-time nurse and team leader. Joy is a local lady with over 20 years of nursing experience, training health workers and running health education classes. She brings a mother’s heart to thousands of children and works tirelessly on their behalf.

Janepher Tafumba works alongside Joy, bringing her teaching skills to our vital health lessons. Janepher has lots of fun and music inside her which aides the children in their learning. She works well with Joy and together they make an amazing team.

Sam Kabanda, Joy’s husband, has brought his administrative skills to help us on a weekly basis. This means that Joy and Janepher can spend more time with the children.

Florence Nakitembe is a trained teacher and as a pastor’s wife she has influence in her local communities. She is committed to seeing her people raised up as they learn to value and care for themselves. Florence is helping us as we expand to work with more children in new areas.

Local Management

Our chairman, Pastor Sam Mugote brings invaluable experience as the founder of TAIP, The International Aids Intervention Programme, and as a local church leader raised in one of our villages.

Pastor Moses Nakitembe was our very first link with the children and remains a good friend to this day. He has recently overseen our latrine building programme and brings excellent foresight and administrative skills to such works.

George Luyiiro is a local Government Clinical Officer providing medical oversight and advice us on best practice.

Good Samaritans

It would be impossible to visit the hundreds of homes that we do without local people willing to give up days to show our team where each child lives. In each of our eight school areas we have teachers, parents or local church members willing to take a member of our staff to children’s homes where we can see how effective our training is and to encourage good practice.
